Mike Rivas Leaves Soccer Assistant Coaching Post At Butler
Butler men’s soccer assistant coach Mike Rivas has
resigned his position at Butler University to become head soccer
coach at Monte Vista Christian High School in Watsonville,
Calif. Rivas served on the staff of Butler head coach Kelly
Findley for three seasons.
“I would like to thank Mike (Rivas) and his family for their
effort, time and level of commitment to the Butler men’s
soccer program,” said Findley, who brought Rivas to
Indianapolis from Florida. “Coach Rivas’
experience, insight, knowledge and great character were an integral
part of our program and played a vital role in our success over the
past three seasons. He will be missed, but I am also excited
for him and his family as they move on to a new
opportunity.”
Rivas, who came to Butler after spending two seasons as the
Director of Coaching for the Gainsville Soccer Alliance in
Gainsville, Fla., served as the primary fitness trainer for the
Bulldogs, while assisting in other areas of team development.
During his three seasons with the Bulldogs, Butler compiled a
29-21-10 record, capped by last season’s 13-3-4 mark and
runner-up finish in the Horizon League. The Bulldogs
increased their win total in each of his three seasons with the
squad.
In addition to his duties as head coach at Monte Vista Christian,
Rivas also will teach physics and biology. He also will work
with youth soccer programs in the U.S. Development Academy in the
Santa Cruz area.
