Boris Gatzky Named Horizon League Scholar-Athlete of the Month

Butler senior Boris Gatzky, who helped the Bulldogs to six wins in their first seven men’s soccer matches, has been named the Horizon League Male Scholar Athlete of the Month for August/September.  He’s the League’s first male recipient for 2009-10.

Gatzky, who’s from Reutlingen, Germany, led the Bulldogs in scoring through the first month of the season.  He concluded the initial month tied for third in the League in goals with three and tied for fifth in the circuit in points with seven.  He further was named the Offensive MVP at the adidas Gamecock Classic in South Carolina after leading the Bulldogs to the tournament title.  Butler defeated No. 25 South Carolina and Presbyterian to claim the team crown.

A marketing major, Gatzky boasts a 3.777 grade-point average.  He’s been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team, the Horizon League Academic Honor Roll and the Butler Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.

Abbie Zaspel of Milwaukee was selected as this year’s first Horizon League Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month.  The standout cross country runner is a nursing major with a 3.888 grade point average.
