Conner Burt Named Horizon League Scholar-Athlete Of The Month
Butler junior Conner Burt, who helped lead the Bulldogs to an
NCAA Tournament bid this fall, has been named the U. S. Army
Horizon League Male Scholar-Athlete of the Month for
November. He’s the third consecutive Butler athlete to
earn the monthly academic award.
Burt, a starting defender from Elkhart, Ind. (Concord), helped the
Bulldogs capture the Horizon League men’s soccer regular
season title and advance tot he League tournament championship
game. Butler and Green Bay tied, 0-0, in the title game, with
Green Bay advancing to the NCAA Tournament based on penalty
kicks. Butler, ranked in the “Top 25”, then
received an at-large bid to the national tournament.
Burt was a key performer on Butler’s defensive unit, which
yielded a League-low 12 goals this season. The Bulldogs tied
for second in the league in shutouts with eight. Burt started
all 19 Butler matches this fall, and he earned second team
All-Horizon League recognition.
In the classroom, Burt boasts a 3.97 grade point average as a
marketing major. He was voted first team on the 2009 ESPN The
Magazine Academic All-America Team, and he has been named to the
Horizon League Academic All-League Team during his career.
Earlier this fall, Boris Gatzky of the Butler men’s soccer
team was named Scholar-Athlete of the Month for August/September,
while Butler cross country standout Andy Baker was tabbed for the
honor in October.
Lauren Felsing, volleyball standout at the University of
Wisconsin-Milwaukee, was selected as the U. S. Army Horizon League
Female Scholar-Athlete of the Month for November.
