Bellarmine Goalkeeper Transfers To Butler
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Matt Soyka, the starting goalkeeper at
Bellarmine University last fall, has transferred to Butler.
The 6-1, 170-pound junior will have to sit out this season, but
will be eligible for the 2012 campaign.
Soyka started 16 of 17 matches for Bellarmine last season, and he
helped the Knights to a 10-5-2 record and a No. 18 national
ranking, the highest national standing in school history. He
had 48 saves and six shutouts on the year, and he set a school
record with a 0.80 goals against average.
Soyka, who began his collegiate career at the University of St.
Thomas, was a four-year varsity letterwinner and a three-time team
captain on the boys soccer team at J. I. Case High School in
Racine, Wis. He earned All-Conference and All-County honors
for two straight years, and he was a two-time all-tournament pick
and a tournament MVP at the Racine Invitational. He played on
the Wisconsin ODP State team for three years (2006-08), competed on
the Brookfield SC U19 regional squad and was a member of the Racine
Spartans in the State League.
