Bulldogs Fall To IUPUI
INDIANAPOLIS, IND, -- Host IUPUI scored twice in a five-minute span midway through the first half and added a third goal late in the match to hand Butler a 3-0 setback in a non-league contest at Kuntz Stadium on Tuesday (Oct. 4). The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 5-4-1 on the season.
Sophomore Ian Block and senior Matt Guy teamed on both first half goals for the Jaguars (2-7-2). Block came off the bench to notch the first goal at 20:24 off a forward pass from Guy. Five minutes later, Block scored again, with Guy and Yogi Snider picking up assists.
Perez Agaba closed the scoring for the home squad with a goal at 80:11 off a pass from Snider.
The Bulldogs mounted numerous attacks in the match, but couldn't find the net. Butler ended the match with an 18-12 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in corner kicks. The Bulldogs had five shots on goal, but four were stopped by goalkeeper Tyler Keever and the fifth was a team stop.
Junior Blake Leyden led Butler with five shots, including two on goal, while sophomore Adekunle Oluyedun finished with four shots, one of which was on goal. Freshman Jesse Miser had the Bulldogs' other two shots on goal.
Redshirt-freshman Andy Holte played the first half in goal and recorded one save, while sophomore Jon Dawson played the second half and posted two saves.
Butler will return to Horizon League play with a home match against UIC on Saturday, Oct. 8. That contest at the Butler Bowl will start at 7 p.m. (ET).
