Butler Beats Akron In Men’s Soccer Exhibition
Butler grabbed the lead with a goal in the first minute of the match and then held on with a strong defensive effort to defeat Akron, 1-0, in a spring men’s soccer match on Sunday (April 21). The win wrapped up Butler’s spring men ‘s soccer schedule.

Butler will play a six-match spring men’s soccer schedule in 2013, beginning with a match against the Butler Soccer Alumni team on Sunday, March 3. The exhibition match against the alums will start a 3 p.m. (ET) at the Butler Bowl.

Sophomore Zach Steinberger, who finished as Butler’s second-leading scorer this past season, has been named to the third team of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2012 NCAA Division I Men’s All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team.

Justin Sass will participate in the InfoSport Pro Soccer Combine in Florida. The three-day event for approximately 250 pro soccer prospects will be held January 8-10.

Three Butler Players Earn Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Honors
Sophomores Zach Steinberger and Brandon Fricke and freshman Jeff Adkins each earned recognition on the 2012 Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer All-Conference Team, released by the conference office on Wednesday, Nov. 7. The All-Conference Team was selected by a vote of the 16 conference head coaches.

Bulldogs Fall At Saint Louis
Host Saint Louis solidified its spot in the upcoming Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Championship with a 4-0 victory over Butler in the final regular season match for both teams at Robert R. Hermann Stadium on Sunday (Nov. 4). The loss left Butler with a final season record of 5-8-5 and a final conference mark of 3-5-1.

Jennings Rex scored a break-away goal with just over ten minutes remaining in the contest to lift #22 Charlotte to a 1-0 victory over Butler in an Atlantic 10 Conference match at the Butler Bowl on Sunday. The match was Butler’s final 2012 home contest.

Freshman Jeff Adkins, who helped lead Butler to an unbeaten (1-0-1) weekend in league play, has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Rookie of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-22. The league office announced its weekly awards on Monday, Sept. 22.

Freshman Jeff Adkins scored the biggest goal of his young career with just under two minutes remaining to lift Butler to a 2-1 victory over Saint Joseph’s at Finnesey Field on Sunday (Oct. 21). The clutch goal gave Butler its second Atlantic 10 Conference win.

Eriq Zavaleta broke a scoreless deadlock midway through the first half and Nikita Kotlov added a second half score to lift No. 11 to a 2-0 victory over visiting Butler in a state match at Armstrong Stadium on Tuesday (Oct. 16) evening. The match was Butler’s final non-conference test of the season.

Senior Austin McAnena scored his first three goals of the season and helped power host Ohio State to a 4-1 victory over Butler in a non-conference match at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on Wednesday (Sept. 26). The setback snapped a three-match unbeaten streak for the Bulldogs.

Severe weather in central Indiana brought an early end to the Butler-Northern Kentucky men’s soccer match at the Butler Bowl on Friday, Sept. 7. The non-conference contest was stopped because of lightning with just over six minutes remaining in the first half, and eventually cancelled.
