INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler will play a six-match spring men's soccer schedule in 2013, beginning with a match against the Butler Soccer Alumni team on Sunday, March 3. The exhibition match against the alums will start a 3 p.m. (ET) at the Butler Bowl.
The alumni match will kick-off a spring schedule that includes three home contests. In addition to the opener, the Bulldogs will host the University of Indianapolis on Friday, March 22, and then conclude the spring slate with a match against Akron on Sunday, April 21. The match with Indianapolis will start at 7 p.m., while the Akron contest is scheduled to 3 p.m.
Butler also will visit the University of Kentucky for a 3 p.m. match on Saturday, March 30. The Bulldogs will play neutral site matches against UIC at Brebeuf High School in Indianapolis on Saturday, April 13, and against Michigan State at the Fort Wayne Sports Club on Friday, April 19. The match with UIC is scheduled for 7 p.m. as part of the Carmel Crossroads Showcase, while the match with Michigan State will start at 6 p.m. in Fort Wayne.
"We are really looking forward to our upcoming spring season! We are constantly looking to improve and evaluate our players, and I believe that this schedule allows us to do so," said Butler head coach Paul Snape. "All of our spring games are against quality opponents, that will test us in every facet of the game. Player development is key, and when playing the likes of Akron, MSU, Kentucky, UIC and UIndy, we feel the rigors of these games will have our boys fully prepared for a tough 2013 fall season."
Butler is coming off a 5-8-5 season. Included in that record were ties against #10 St. John's and #11 South Florida and three victories in the rugged Atlantic 10 Conference. The Bulldogs faced six "Top 25" teams in 2012.
