KENTWOOD, MICH. -- Butler wrapped up the exhibition portion of its 2013 men's soccer schedule with another strong outing on Saturday night (Aug. 24).  The Bulldogs, coming off a 4-0 exhibition win over Eastern Illinois, battled to a 90-minute, 0-0 deadlock with defending Big Ten champion Michigan State at Pat Patterson Stadium in Kentwood, Mich.

"It was a good training in preparation for the upcoming season," said Butler head coach Paul Snape of the match with the Spartans.  "There were a lot of positives against one of the top teams in the region."

"We were able to record another shutout with strong play on the defensive end.  Our back line and our goalkeepers did a good job, and we were able to limit their opportunities.  We looked a little tired on offense, but still gave a very good effort."

Both coaches agreed to limit the contest to a 90-minute regulation match with no overtime periods.  They did, however, stage a penalty kick "shootout" for practice, and Butler prevailed.

Michigan State won the Big Ten Men's Soccer Championship last season, and the Spartans were tabbed second in the preseason poll of Big Ten coaches this year.

The Bulldogs will return to Indianapolis to prepare for the 2013 regular season opener at home against Western Michigan on Friday, Aug. 30.  That match at the Butler Bowl will start at 7 p.m. (ET).
