NEW YORK CITY - Freshman David Goldsmith and junior Zach Steinberger were both honored by the BIG EAST Conference this week. Goldsmith was named BIG EAST Rookie of the Week for the second time and Steinberger the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week, the first Butler player to receive that recognition.
Goldsmith's performances against defending national champion Indiana and Villanova in the team's BIG EAST opener earned him the recognition. The Bristol, England native scored two late goals against Indiana, including the game-winner in the second overtime period. He also picked up an assist in a 2-1 victory over Villanova on Saturday. In his last three games, all Butler victories, Goldsmith has scored four goals and assisted on another.
Steinberger scored Butler's only two goals against Villanova. His first goal in the 20th minute came off an assist from Goldsmith. His second goal came when the game was tied 1-1 in the 72nd minute. He headed the ball in the upper right portion of the goal off a corner kick opportunity. Steinberger now has a total of four goals on the season.
The team heads down south to Evansville for a match against the Purple Aces on Tuesday at 8 p.m. The Bulldogs return home this weekend for a match against DePaul on Saturday at 7 p.m.
