Bulldogs Fall At Nationally-Ranked Georgetown
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Georgetown, ranked 11th in the nation, unleashed a potent offensive attack and defeated Butler, 4-1, in a BIG EAST men's soccer match at Shaw Field on Saturday (Oct. 19). It was the second setback in five conference matches for the No. 18 Bulldogs, who fell to 9-4-1 on the year.
Forward Steve Neumann led Georgetown's assault with a pair of goals and an assist, while Brandon Allen and Alex Muyl each added a single tally for the Hoyas (10-3-1, 3-1-1 BIG EAST). Allen gave the Hoyas the lead in the 24th minute with a header off a cross from Newmann, and the home squad added to the lead less than 10 minutes later on Muyl's unassisted goal.
Neumann scored the first of his two goals in the 50th minute with an assist from Muyl, and then stretched the Georgetown lead to 4-0 with an unassisted goal in the 69th minute.
Butler avoided a shutout in the 88th minute when freshman A. R. Smith found the back of the net after taking a pass from Adam Glanzer. It was Smith's third goal of the season.
Georgetown out-shot the Bulldogs, 18-10, including a 12-4 advantage in the second half. The Hoyas had 12 shots on goal to five for Butler. Smith had a pair of shots in the match, both on goal.
Senior Jon Dawson played the first 79:38 of the match in goal and recorded seven saves, before giving way to junior Andy Holte, who recorded one save.
Butler returns home for its next two matches, beginning with a contest against No. 22 Creighton on Wednesday, Oct. 23. That match at the Butler Bowl will start at 7 p.m.
