David Beck, a former midfielder for the Bulldogs (1998-99), is in his second season as an assistant men's soccer coach at Butler. He previously had served an assistant coaching stint under his father, Mike, with the premier Scott Gallagher club team in St. Louis. Beck was a freshman starter on Butler's 1998 team, which won a school-record 19 matches, captured a conference tournament championship and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. He currently stands in a tie for 12th place on Butler's all-time scoring list with 39 points. After two seasons with the Bulldogs, Beck transferred to Saint Louis University and helped the Billikens to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. He tied for the team lead in assists as a junior and then earned second team All-Conference USA honors for the 18-2 Billikens in 2001. He was a teammate of former Butler assistant coach Loren Reinhardt on that 2001 club, which reached the "Elite Eight" of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Beck earned a degree in communications from Saint Louis in 2002. He spent 2003 working for Anheiser Busch in Ohio and Illinois.
