Junior Scott Olsen scored in the 87th minute of the match to lead Butler to a 1-0 victory over host Wright State in a Horizon League match at Alumni Field in Fairborn, Ohio, on Thursday, Sept. 30. The victory was the sixth straight for the Bulldogs, who improved to 7-3 on the season and 2-0 in league play. Wright State fell to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League.
Olsen, the reigning Horizon League Player of the Week, had a one-on-one break-away against Wright State goalkeeper Jason Balach in the closing minutes of the match. The Butler forward launched a shot from ten yards out into the right side of the net for the lone score of the match. It was Olsen's sixth goal this season and his fourth game-winner.
Wright State appeared to take the lead in the 85th minute, when Ricky Strong knocked a header past Butler goalkeeper Frank Peabody. But Strong was ruled offsides, and the goal was waved off.
The Bulldogs had a 13-12 edge in shots, but both teams had seven shots on goal. Olsen led Butler with six shots and three shots on goal. The Raiders had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Peabody went the distance in goal for the Bulldogs and picked up his first shutout of the season. He had seven saves, including five in the second half. Balach finished with six saves.
Butler will return to Indianapolis to host Horizon League foe UIC on Sunday, Oct. 3. The match at Butler's Varsity Field is slated for 1 p.m. (EST).
