Just 11 seconds into the game the Hoosiers found the back of the net and went on to beat the Bulldogs 2-0 at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis on Tuesday night. The loss drops Butler to 7-2-2 overall, while the Hoosiers improve their record to 6-3-2.
Indiana University Junior Daniel Kelly took advantage of the slick conditions and a mishap by the Butler defense and touched the ball passed Bulldog goalkeeper Nick Hegeman into the back of the net. The remainder of the game was marked by unfavorable conditions and physical play, with the Hoosiers receiving two yellow cards and the Bulldogs' Michael Clayton picking up one of his own.
Indiana would go on to score their second goal in the 67th minute when Neil Wilmarth found a loose ball in the box and took a shot from 8 yards out.
After four years of in state rival Indiana, Patano said, "We responded well during the game, all the guys kept their heads up. Last year we were a young group."
Butler Coach Kelly Findley hopes to look passed this non conference match up and focus on the Horizon League.
The Bulldogs will face UIC on Saturday at the Butler Bowl with a kick off time of 4:00pm.
