Junior Andrew Pancio scored a goal with just over eight minutes remaining in the contest to give Butler a 1-0 victory over Horizon League foe Wright State at Varsity Field on Sunday, Oct. 19. The win lifted the Bulldogs to 3-1-1 in league play and 7-6-3 overall, while Wright State fell to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the Horizon League.
Pancio's game-winner came from 18 yards out directly in front of the goal He took a short pass from teammate David Wyrick and blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the net. It was his third goal of the season, and his second in Butler's last two matches.
The Bulldogs held off the charging Raiders in the last eight minutes of the match. Goalkeeper Evan Reinhardt, who recorded his second consecutive shutout, had five saves in the contest, all coming in the second half.
Wright State out-shot the Bulldogs, 15-13, and had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Raiders goalkeeper Jason Leuthold finished with three saves.
The Bulldogs will continue Horizon League action with a match Cleveland State on Friday, Oct. 24. It will be the first of three consecutive road matches for head coach Joe Sochacki's club.
