Butler receives NSCAA Team Academic Award
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America has recognized Butler University for outstanding academic achievement in men's soccer. The Bulldogs were one of 110 colleges and universities to earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 2007-08 academic year.
The NSCAA Award is presented to schools, regardless of division, that post a 3.0 or higher team grade point average. Butler's 3.22 team GPA ranked in the "Top 40" of all schools honored and in the "Top 15" of NCAA Division I institutions. A total of 110 schools were recognized by the NSCAA.
This fall, Butler had a league-high four men's soccer players named to the Horizon League Academic All-League Team. Sophomore Connor Burt (3.948 grade point average) led the way and was joined on the honor squad by junior Boris Gatzky (3.843), junior Nick Hegeman (3.376) and sophomore Ben Sippola (3.779).
Butler matched the fourth-highest single season win total in school history with a 13-3-4 record in 2008. The Bulldogs, who were ranked as high as No. 21 during the fall campaign, became the first team since 2003 to finish with an unbeaten Horizon League record (5-0-3).
