Butler senior forward Frank Patano, who scored game-winning goals in consecutive matches last week, has been named Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week. Patano finished the first full week of action as the leading scorer in the league.
Patano, a Franklin Park, Ill., native, scored three goals in Butler's three matches last week, helping the Bulldogs win two of the three contests. He scored both goals in Butler's 2-0 victory over Northeastern, which gave the Bulldogs the team title at the Courtyard By Marriott East Classic, hosted by Louisville. He wound up as one of four Butler players named to the all-tournament team in the four-team meet.
Four days later, Patano tallied the lone goal in the match to give Butler a 1-0 victory in its home-opener against IPFW. The goal was his fourth of the season and the 28th of his career. The Bulldogs concluded the week with a 3-2 loss at Evansville.
On the week, Patano had 10 shots and five shots on goal. His three goals boosted his career scoring total to 64 points and lifted him into seventh place on Butler's all-time scoring list.
Patano currently leads the Horizon League in goals (4) and game-winning goals (3), and he's tied for the league lead in points (8). He stands second in the conference in shots (13).
Butler, 3-1-0, will play its lone match this week at DePaul on Sunday (Sept. 14) at 2 p.m. (ET).
