MUNCIE, Ind. - Junior Chris Herron placed second in the singles B flight and two Bulldog doubles teams reached the semifinals to lead the Butler men's tennis team at the Ball State Invitational this past weekend. The tourney was BU's second of the fall season.
Herron was Butler's most successful singles entry, posting a 4-1 record en route to a berth in his flight's final match. Each of Herron's wins came in straight sets. After rolling through his first three opponents, Herron defeated Xavier's Brian Starr 6-2, 6-2 in the semifinal to set up a match with another Musketeer player, Patrick Bandy. Bandy was too much to handle, defeating Herron 6-3, 6-1.
The doubles combos of Stephen McLoughlin and Theodor Lenz and David Dolins and Ben Shafer each advanced to the semifinals of their flights before bowing out. McLoughlin and Lenz picked up an 8-2 win in the quarters before being edged by a team from Marquette 8-5 in the semis. Dolins and Shafer ripped off a pair of wins in the D flight before falling to a combo from Xavier.
Butler will participate in the Purdue Invitational in West Lafayette Oct. 10-11.
