WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Butler men's tennis team dropped its season opener 4-0 at Purdue on Saturday afternoon.
The two teams played only to 4-0 because of the busy schedule at the Schwartz Tennis Center at Purdue. Toledo and IUPUI were also playing dual matches at the facility.
Tommy Marx and Billy Weldon saw the most success in singles play. After dropping his first set at No. 3 singles, Marks had a 4-2 lead in the second set when the Boilermakers clinched the match. Weldon was competitive at No. 6, being edged 7-5 in the first set.
BU very nearly had the doubles point over PU. The Bulldogs were up a break on two courts before the Boilermakers rallied to win. Purdue won 8-6 at both 1 and 3 doubles, and No. 2 doubles was unfinished at 6-5.
Butler will play its first home match Sunday, Jan. 13 against Toledo. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
