The Butler men's tennis team finished a weekend in central Illinois with a 1-1 mark. The Bulldogs pulled out a dramatic 4-3 win at Bradley after losing at Illinois State.
With the match tied 3-3, the fate of the match rested on Brandon Woods at No. 5 singles. The contest between Woods and Bradley's Justin Abrams was extremely close. Woods won the first set 7-5 and then lost in a tie break in the second set. Woods then pulled out the three-set win 6-4.
After losing the doubles point, BU got wins from Austin Woldmoe, Tommy Marx and Billy Weldon. Marx and Weldon won competitive matches in straight sets while Woldmoe won 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles.
The victory over the Braves came a day after a match at Missouri Valley power Illinois State. The Redbirds defeated Butler 7-0 on Saturday. However, three of the singles matches were extremely competitive. Woldmoe, Weldon and Sam O'Neill each lost 7-6, 7-5 in competitive matches.
Butler will play fellow Atlantic 10 Conference schools Xavier and Dayton in the next week. BU plays at Xavier Wednesday, Feb. 20 and hosts UD two days later.
