Bulldogs Beat DePauw
GREENCASTLE, Ind. - The Butler men's tennis team rolled past DePauw 7-2 on Wednesday evening, and in the process moved its overall record to better than .500 for the first time in five years.
The win over the Tigers lifted Butler to 8-7 on the year, the first time the team has been better than .500 since April 2008. BU has won four matches in a row and five of its last six.
The Bulldogs won five singles matches and two doubles points against the host team DePauw. Butler won Nos. 2-6 singles with Pulok Bhattacharya, Billy Weldon, Brandon Woods and Andres Maynez each winning handily in straight sets. Tommy Marx won at No. 3 singles in three sets. Butler took wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles.
The dual match was scored to nine, with each doubles match counting as a point, because that is how tennis dual matches are scored in NCAA Division III and DePauw was the home team.
Butler's next match is March 21 vs. Ball State.
