FISHERS, Ind. - Cleveland State held off the Butler men's tennis team 5-2 on Saturday. The match was BU's last of the regular season.
CSU won at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles quickly for the doubles point, then won four of six in singles play. Butler got victories from Sam O'Neill at No. 3 singles and Billy Weldon at No. 5 singles.
O'Neill out-lasted CSU's Ali Shabib 7-5, 3-6, 10-5 in three sets. Weldon who his team-leading 20th match with a 6-2, 6-2 rout of Nolan Marks. Weldon is 20-10 in singles play for the 2012-13 year.
Also competitive was Ruben Geeraert, who lost to Matt Ford in three sets. He won the first set 6-4 before Ford came back.
Butler (9-12) will prepare for its first and last Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship. BU will play at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio starting April 26.
