MUNCIE, Ind. - Sophomores Austin Woldmoe and Billy Weldon won the consolation draw in the A doubles flight to lead the Butler men's tennis team at Ball State.
Sophomore Pulok Bhattacharya saw success in the back draw of the A singles flight, winning twice before falling in the consolation semifinal. Along with Bhattacharya, freshman Andres Maynez also won two singles matches.
Woldmoe and Weldon won three times together, defeating teams from IUPUI and IPFW to make the final. The Bulldog duo defeated Dayton's Devin Jones and Robert Salcedo 8-3 to finish the bracket.
Bhattacharya beat Jonathan Raa from IPFW 6-0, 6-0 and then beat Cleveland State's Joe VanMeter before losing to another CSU player. Maynez, the first recruit for first-year head coach Parker Ross, won his first two singles contests in straight sets before falling to Ball State's Austin Sansone.
Butler's next fall event is the ITA Regional in Memphis, Tenn., later in October.
