INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's basketball program has added three players in the 2009 Early Signing Period. Sarah Hamm, Amanda McDivitt and Jenna Cobb have each signed a National Letter of Intent and will play basketball for the Bulldogs beginning in fall 2010.
"We are extremely excited about our 2010 recruiting class," head coach Beth Couture said. ""These three players' skill levels will help us as we continue to challenge ourselves to stay at the top of the Horizon League."
Hamm, a 6-3 post player from Winchester High School, signed with BU after earning AP All-State Honorable Mention and Randolph Country Player of the Year honors as a junior in 2008-09. She averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per game last year and was named an Indiana Junior All-Star.
"Sarah is very skilled on the low block," Couture said. "She also has the ability to pass on the perimeter and hit the open jump shot."
McDivitt, a 5-8 shooting guard from Connersville High School, is the No. 74 ranked shooting guard by ESPN.com HoopGurlz. She averaged 18.4 points and 3.2 steals per game last season en route to AP All-State Honorable Mention honors. A pure shooter with deep range, McDivitt made 79 3-pointers as a junior last season. She was also named first team all-conference and all-tournament at the 2009 Connersville Sectional.
"Amanda is a good scorer, but we're also impressed with how she has worked hard to become a solid defender," Couture said."
Cobb, of Miami Trace High School in Washington Court House, Ohio, rounds out the trio. Cobb is a 5-7 combo guard who was named second team All-Ohio last season. She averaged 17 points per game and was named district player of the year, all-conference and all-region.
"Jenna will be able to help us at all of the perimeter positions," Couture said. "She plays hard and does the little things that help her team win."
Butler (20-12 in 2008-09) opens regular season play Sunday, Nov. 15 at Kentucky. The game, which will be broadcast on FSN South, will tip at 1 p.m. ET. BU's home opener is Wednesday, Nov. 18 against IPFW at 7 p.m.
