Former Butler women's basketball standout Lade Akande has taken a position as an admissions counselor in the Butler University admissions office. Akande, a 2009 BU graduate, finished second in school history with 1,705 points.
Akande, a native of Robinson, Ill., will primarily focus on recruiting qualified high school students from Northwest Indiana and Indianapolis Public Schools (IPS) to enroll at Butler. She will be responsible for reviewing applications for admission and assisting in the distribution of 10 full-tuition scholarships for qualified IPS students, giving presentations to visiting groups and meeting with students and parents upon their admission to Butler.
"We are thrilled to keep Lade involved in the Butler community," head coach Beth Couture said. "Lade's ability to reach many different kinds of people and her passion for Butler make her an ideal fit for this opportunity. I am confident she will be able to help bring deserving kids to Butler as a counselor."
Akande finished in the school's top 10 in 12 different categories. She was the second player in school history to record more than 1,500 points, 700 rebounds and 100 blocks in a career, and she had 88 career double-figure scoring games and 17 double-doubles. She was named All-Horizon League three times, including a first-team selection as a junior in 2008.
