Butler Duo Named Preseason All-Horizon League
INDIANAPOLIS - Butler senior forward Susan Lester and junior guard Brittany Bowen were each voted preseason All-Horizon League. Lester, who enters the season with 994 career points, was a first-team honoree while Bowen was voted to the second team.
Lester, a native of Anderson, Ind. (Pendleton Heights), averaged
10.2 points and 6.0
rebounds per game last season. She was at her best in conference
play, averaging 12.0 points and 6.7 rebounds per league game. The
senior post player went for a career-high 31 points (27 in the
first half) with five 3-pointers in last season's victory over
Valparaiso.
Entering her senior season, Lester ranks 6th on BU's all-time list for career 3-pointers made (118) and 3-pointers attempted (338). She is currently 10th in school history with 609 career rebounds.
Bowen, a Columbus, Ind. (Columbus North) native, led Butler in scoring last season with 10.9 points per contest. She averaged 12.2 points per game in Horizon League play. One of the league's best shooters, Bowen ranked 4th in the Horizon League in 3-point field goal percentage (.405) and 8th in 3s made per game (1.5). She also shot 82.9 percent at the free throw line.
"We are excited that Susan and Brittany were recognized by our league," head coach Beth Couture said. "They led us to postseason play last year and we're looking for them to take us even high this season."
Joining Lester as preseason first-team honorees were Cleveland
State's Kailey Klein (preseason player of the year), UIC's Jessie
Miller, Cleveland State's Shawnita Garland and Green Bay's Celeste
Hoewisch.
In addition to Bowen, Wright State's LaShawna Thomas, Valparaiso's Lauren Kenney, Green Bay's Kayla Tetschlag and UIC's Jasmine Bailey were voted to the season.
Butler (20-12 last season) begins the regular season Sunday, Nov. 15 at Kentucky. The Bulldogs will host DePauw in an exhibition game Monday, Nov. 9 at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
