Butler Hosting Green Bay For First Place Saturday

The Horizon League-leading Butler women's basketball team will play defending champion Green Bay for first place in the league standings this Saturday. The Bulldogs and Phoenix are both 12-3 in league play, and the winner will have a one game lead heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

Butler (19-7, 12-3 HL) is riding a seven-game winning streak and has won 10 of its last 11 games. The Bulldogs are led by senior Melanie Thornton, who averages 15.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. Thornton had 18 points, 10 rebounds and four steals as Butler defeated Milwaukee Thursday night, 59-41.

Green Bay (23-3, 12-3 HL) was nationally-ranked for much of the season and at one point reached No. 14 in the polls. The two teams met on Jan. 28 in Green Bay, with the Bulldogs falling 73-62.
