Coach Couture Interview
INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Chloe Hamilton scored 14 points to lead a balanced Butler scoring attack as the Bulldogs women's basketball team defeated Ohio Dominican, 69-50, Saturday evening. It was BU's second home win this week.
"We have a lot of good players that we needed to see compete," head coach Beth Couture said. "We wanted to see how different girls responded to playing another team in game situations."
The Bulldogs opened up a 15-0 lead in the first 6 minutes and led the entire game. ODU would rally to within 21-14 before BU got the lead back to 15. The Bulldogs led 33-21 at the half. Butler went up 45-25 just minutes after halftime and would lead by as many as 24.
Hamilton's 14 points came on 6-for-9 shooting. She added five rebounds and three steals. Many of Hamilton's points came in transition, as BU turned 28 ODU turnovers into 34 points on the offensive end.
"I thought we played very focused and intense defense tonight," Couture said. "We got better on Wednesday against Saint Louis and got better again tonight. ODU is a team that can shoot and we did a great job contesting shots and getting out on shooters."
BU shot 45 percent from the floor and made nine of its 10 free throws. The Dawgs enjoyed also a 37-24 rebounding advantage. The Bulldogs also had 20 assists on its 29 field goals, making just 13 turnovers.
Tracy Snider led ODU with 13 points. Summer Hale added 10.
Butler (2-1) will play in the WBCA Classic at Notre Dame Nov. 26-28. BU will play Wake Forest and IUPUI before taking on host Notre Dame Sunday, Nov. 28.
