NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Senior Chloe Hamilton scored 19 points and the Butler women's basketball team pulled away for a 63-51 win over IUPUI Saturday evening at Notre Dame. Senior Alyssa Pittman added 12 points for the Bulldogs.
Senior Brittany Bowen scored six points and in the process surpassed 1,000 career points, becoming the 21st Bulldog to reach four digits. She now has 1,005 points.
Butler started slow, but held the Jaguars in check defensively and eventually took control of the game. The Bulldogs closed the first half with an 11-4 run that gave them a 29-22 lead at halftime.
"We didn't come out with the intensity that we needed to, but we came out strong in the second half and did some nice things," head coach Beth Couture said. "After last night's overtime game against Wake, tonight was a gut-check for us."
Leading 33-31 early in the second half, Butler got four points from freshman Sarah Hamm and a pair of free throws from Pittman to extend the lead to 39-31 with 12 minutes left. A trey by Pittman and a jumper by freshman Jenna Cobb would make it 44-33.
Junior Devin Brierly added six points and a game-high five assists. Hamm added four steals. Gretchen Gaskin led IUPUI with 15 points.
Butler (3-2) will conclude the three-game holiday weekend Sunday, Nov. 28 against No. 16 Notre Dame. The game is set for 2 p.m. with a live video stream available HERE.
