INDIANAPOLIS — Butler women’s basketball head coach Beth Couture has announced that forward Daress McClung will transfer from the University of Cincinnati to join the Butler University women’s basketball program. McClung will come to Butler after playing two seasons at Cincinnati.
"We're really excited Daress has decided to join the Butler family and help our program as we continue to strive for a league championship," Couture said. "Daress was an athlete we recruited out of high school and we think she and her family are a great fit for Butler."
An Indianapolis native, McClung attended Lawrence North High School and was a teammate of former Bulldog Azjah Bass. She averaged 14.0 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. In addition to being named to three consecutive Indianapolis All-North teams, she was honored as an Indiana Junior All-Star in 2007-08.
The 6-0 McClung played in 26 games and made 13 starts in her two years at Cincinnati. As a freshman in 2009-10, she averaged 5.0 points and 4.0 rebounds per game. As a sophomore in 2010-11, an ankle injury forced her to sit out the final 25 games of the season. She saw action in four games, averaging 8.0 points and 6.3 rebounds.
Due to NCAA rules, McClung will sit out the 2011-2012 season. She will be eligible to play in the fall of 2012.
