Ashley Hayes, a native of Kokomo, Ind., was hired at Butler as an assistant coach in 2011. Her main responsibilities at Butler are as recruiting coordinator and developing perimeter players. Prior to coming to Butler, Hayes spent three seasons at Murray State, where she helped coach the team to 45 wins. She also played collegiately at MSU from 2003-07.

Hayes assisted in all aspects of the women's basketball program at Murray State, working with both perimeter and post players while overseeing many administrative areas. She was also co-director of the team's summer basketball camps. While at Murray State, Hayes coached four CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-Americans and four All-Ohio Valley Conference players.

MSU's best season with Hayes on the bench was 2008-09, when the Racers finished 23-9 and advanced to the second round of the WNIT. The 2009 MSU team won the OVC regular season title and posted a 14-0 mark at home. The team was ranked in the nation's top 10 in scoring and led the country in team free throw shooting (.826).

Before her three seasons at MSU, Hayes coached the 2007-08 year at UNC-Greensboro.

Hayes, who played at both Western and Kokomo High Schools, was a two-time team captain during her playing career in Murray. She finished second in school history with 143 made 3-point field goals while also finishing second for a single game (8) and season (67). Hayes was twice named OVC Player of the Week and was an honor roll student-athlete.

In high school, Hayes led Kokomo High School to a 26-0 record and a state championship in 2003. She was second team all-state and a McDonald's All-American nominee. She played her first two seasons at Western High School, where she once scored 43 points in a game.

Hayes earned her bachelor's degree in advertising with a minor in marketing from Murray State in 2007.
