Indianapolis, Ind. - After averaging a double-double while helping the Bulldogs to a pair of league victories last weekend, junior forward Susan Lester was named the Horizon League's Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The league office made the announcement on Monday (Feb. 16).
A native of Anderson, Ind., Lester averaged a double-double with 19.0 points per game and a team-best 10.0 rebounds in two games last weekend.
She finished with 20 points on 8-for-17 shooting and a game-high 13 rebounds at UIC for her second double-double of the year and added two assists and a team-high three steals. Two days later at Loyola, she finished tied for the team-lead with 18 points on 6-for-9 shooting (.667) and added a game-best seven rebounds in a win over the Ramblers.
Her 12.5 points per game in league contests leads the team while her 6.6 rebounds in conference games are second on the squad.
"Susan's play of late is a big reason why we were able to get two road wins," head coach Beth Couture said. "She had two outstanding games on both ends of the floor, and her energy level was tremendous all weekend."
The award is Lester's second weekly honor of the year and is the third for the Bulldogs this season. She was named the league's player of the week on Jan. 26, while senior center Lade Akande earned the award on Dec. 8.
Butler returns to action on Saturday (Feb. 21) afternoon when they take on Valparaiso beginning at 2:35 p.m. ET (1:35 p.m. CT) at the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso, Ind.
