Gene Hill Accepts Coaching Position At Georgia Tech
Indianapolis, Ind. - Butler women's basketball associate head coach Gene Hill has announced that he is stepping down from his role with the Bulldogs to accept an assistant coaching position at Georgia Tech. He will serve as the recruiting coordinator under Yellow Jackets head coach MaChelle Joseph.
One of head coach Beth Couture's original hires when she took over the Butler women's basketball program prior to the 2002-03 season, Hill completed his sixth season with the team in 2007-08, helping to oversee the Bulldogs resurgence within the Horizon League. During his tenure, Butler went from a three-win season the year prior to his arrival to a 20-win campaign last year.
As the Bulldogs' recruiting coordinator, Hill brought some of the top basketball talent in the conference to the Indianapolis campus. Butler had at least one member named to the league's all-newcomer team in five of his six years, while three players went on to score 1,000 points in their careers, including three-time all-league honoree Lade Akande.
"It is definitely a bittersweet day for me," Couture said. "I am extremely excited for Gene's opportunity to advance his career, but we are also very sad to loose a member of our family who has been a very important part of renewing the winning tradition of women's basketball at Butler."
Hill will begin his duties at Georgia Tech on May 12.
