Indianapolis, Ind. - Butler's regular season contest at Green Bay on Feb. 16 will be one of two Horizon League women's basketball games to be televised nationally on ESPNU. The league office made the announcement on Monday (Oct. 22).
The contest, which will be held at the recently completed Kress Events Center in Green Bay, will feature a rematch of the 2007 Horizon League Championship game that pitted the Bulldogs against the nationally-ranked Phoenix on March 11.
The Bulldogs will feature a pair of All-Horizon League players in the contest in center Lade Akande and forward Susan Lester. Akande was named to the all-league second team last season after averaging 14.1 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, while Lester was mentioned on the all-newcomer squad after leading the team with 6.6 rebounds per game and nine double-doubles.
Head coach Beth Couture, who recently signed a five-year contract extension to remain at Butler through the 2011-12 season, has steadily built the program back to prominence since taking over the helm in 2002. Last season, she guided the Bulldogs to their most wins (16) since the 1998-99 campaign while leading the team to its first appearance in the league championship contest since 1998.
The 2008 Horizon League Championship on March 16 will also be televised live on ESPNU.
Butler opens up the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 10 when they host Ohio beginning at 4:30 p.m. in Hinkle Fieldhouse.
