Indianapolis, Ind. - The trend of dominance continued for Lade Akande this weekend, as the 6-1 junior center was named the Horizon League's Player of the Week for the third time in four weeks on Monday (Dec. 3).
Akande led the Bulldogs in scoring for the fifth time in six games last weekend, notching a game-high 20 points in just 23 minutes on 9-for-18 shooting from the field in helping the Bulldogs to an 83-70 victory over Indiana State on Saturday (Dec. 1). She also tied her season-high with nine rebounds to finish just shy of a double-double.
Her scoring performance brings her career point total to 968, leaving her just 32 points away from becoming the 19th Butler player with 1,000 career points.
"Lade's performance this year speaks for itself," head coach Beth Couture said. "She has been a force on offense in the paint and has worked to control the boards. Her play has really helped us to succeed, but we have plenty of other players who deserve a lot of credit for our strong start to the season."
Akande has been the Horizon League's Player of the Week in three of the four weeks this season, receiving the honor in week one (Nov. 14), three (Nov. 26) and four (Dec. 3).
Butler, which touts a league-leading 5-1 record, is off to its best start since the 1998-99 season.
The Bulldogs open up a four-game home stand on Monday (Dec. 3) when they host Oakland City beginning at 7:00 p.m.
