Julia Porter Paces Butler At Wolverine Invitational
ANN ARBOR, MICH. -- Senior Julia Porter shot a four-over-par 75 in the final round and grabbed a "Top 25" individual finish to lead Butler at the Wolverine Invitational, which concluded at the University of Michigan Golf Course on Sunday (Sept. 23). Butler wound up 11th in the final team standings.
Porter, who entered the final round in a tie for 32nd place carded Butler's best round of the 54-hole tournament and climbed to a tie for 23rd with Christine Cash of Xavier, Jacqueline Calamaro of Illinois and Sophie Godley of Florida International. Porter began the tournament with an 86, before shooting a 77 in the second round.
The Butler scoring leader wound up tied for fifth in the tournament in par five scoring at plus two for the three rounds. Her final 54-hole score of 238 was just six stroke shy of a "Top 10" finish.
Sophomore Isabella Lambert came in second for the Bulldogs and tied for 33rd overall with a three-round score of 243 . She had Butler's best opening-round score with a 79, and then she finished with an 81 and an 83 in the final two rounds.
Junior Ali Restaino tied for 73rd with rounds of 84, 87 and 87 (258), while freshman Nicole Johnson tied for 75th with scores of 86, 93 and 80 (259). Sophomore Jenna Peters shot an 84 in the first round and an 83 in the second round, before withdrawing from the tournament.
Senior Ali Arends, playing as a non-scoring individual, tied for 81st place with scores of 92, 89 and 85 (267).
Host Michigan and Florida International tied for the team title with 54-hole scores of 930, three strokes ahead of Xavier, Illinois and Eastern Michigan.
