Bulldogs Win Florida Tournament
JACKSONVILLE, FLA. -- Sophomore Jenna Peters led Butler to a one-two individual finish and helped the Bulldogs to the team title at the Bulldog Florida Invitational, which wrapped up in Jacksonville, Fla., on Thursday (March 14). The five-team tournament was held at Windsor Parke Golf Course.
Peters captured medalist honors with a 36-hole total of 155. She grabbed the lead on the first day with a five-over-par 77 and then held the top spot with a 78 in the final round. None of the scoring players shot a better round either day.
Teammate Isabella Lambert finished one stroke back and tied for second with Kelli Witt of IUPUI. Lambert carded back-to-back rounds of 78, while Witt, playing as a non-scoring individual, opened with a tournament-best 76 and then finished with an 80.
Junior Ali Restaino also posted a "Top 10" individual finish for the Bulldogs, finishing eighth with a two-day total of 167. She shot an 83 in the opening round and finished with an 84. Seniors Julia Porter and Ali Arends tied for 14th with final scores of 174. Porter carded rounds of 85 and 89, while Arends posted an 88 on the first day and an 86 in the final round.
Freshman Nicole Johnson, playing as a non-scoring individual, came in 24th with rounds of 90 and 92 (182).
Butler grabbed a 10-stroke lead on the first day with a team score of 323, before finishing with a final round 326. The Bulldogs' two-day total of 649 was 32 strokes better than runner-up Alabama State.
The Bulldogs will return to Indianapolis to host the Butler Spring Invitational on March 25-26.
