Bulldogs Place 11th At HBU Invitational
MISSOURI CITY, TEXAS -- Butler shot a team score of 316 in the final round, but slipped one spot in the final team standings and finished 11th at the HBU Husky Invitational, hosted by Houston Baptist. The 15-team tournament concluded on Tuesday (April 2).
The Bulldogs opened the 54-hole tournament with a team total of 316, before carding a 329 in the second round. The 645 total placed Butler in tenth place heading into the final round. Butler matched its tournament-best round on the final day, but was overtaken by UAB, which shot a 308 to edge the Bulldogs by a single stroke.
Sophomore Jenna Peters led Butler in the two-day event with a 54-hole total of 233. She shot a 77 in the opening round on the par-72 Riverbend Country Club layout, and then she carded a 78 in the second round. She finished with a 78 on the final day and wound up in a tie for 21st place in the individual standings.
Sophomore Isabella Lambert followed first day rounds of 76 and 88 with a final day 79 to tie for 37th place. Her 54-hole total of 243 was two strokes better than teammate Ali Arends, who tied for 43rd place with rounds of 79, 80 and 86.
Senior Julia Porter posted Butler's best final found score with a 77 and tied for 55th place with a two-day total of 249. Junior Ali Restaino tied for 58th place with a final score of 251 (86-83-82).
Sam Houston State rallied in the final two rounds to overtake Lamar for the team title. The Bearkats shot a team total of 292 in the second round to close to within seven strokes of Lamar heading into the final round. The tournament winners then completed their climb with a 297 in the final round to finish two strokes ahead of Lamar.
Julia Roth of Central Arkansas claimed medalist honors with a 54-hole total of four-over-par 220. She carded rounds of 75, 72 and 73 to take the top individual spot.
