Bulldogs Head To NCAA Tournament
INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- For the third consecutive year, Butler will begin play in the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship at the Central Regional. The NCAA Division I Women's Golf Committee announced the teams and individuals for the 2013 Championship on Monday, April 29.
Three regional tournaments will be conducted May 9-11 to determine the championships field. Regional tournaments are considered preliminary rounds of the NCAA championships competition, and all national championships policies apply.
A total of 378 participants have been selected for regional competition. Of these players, 126 will advance to the championships final. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional.
The Bulldogs are one of 24 teams assigned to the Central Regional, being hosted by the University of Oklahoma and being held at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Oaklahoma. The East Regional is being played at the Auburn University Club in Auburn, Ala., while the West Regional will be at the Stanford Golf Course in Stanford, Calif.
Butler, champion of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, is making its third straight appearance the Central Regional. The Bulldogs were 23rd at the Central Regional a year ago, after a 24th place finish in 2011. Senior Julia Porter will be making her third consecutive appearance in the national tournament, while sophomores Isabella Lambert and Jenna Peters are returning to the NCAA Tournament for the second straight year.
The NCAA championship finals will be held May 21-24 at the University of Georgia Golf Course in Athens, Ga.
