Butler Wins Chesapeake Bay Invitational
ANNAPOLIS, MD. -- Butler captured three of the top five individual finishes and grabbed the team title at the Chesapeake Bay Invitational women's golf tournament, which wrapped up on Monday (Sept. 23). The 36-hole event was hosted by Navy at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
Junior Isabella Lambert paced the Bulldogs and finished runner-up overall with a two-round score of 151 (+7). She carded a two-over-par 74 on Sunday in the opening round and then finished with a 77. Lambert trailed individual medalist Larissa Spiess of Towson by just three strokes.
Freshman Megan McCambridge turned in the best performance of her young career with rounds of 79 and 77 for a 36-hole score of 156 and a fourth place overall finish, while junior Jenna Peters tied for fifth with rounds of 80 and 78 (158). Sophomore Nicole Johnson rounded out Butler's scoring team and tied for 18th overall with a final score of 170 (83-87).
Freshman Christine Cates, playing as a non-scoring individual, tied for 22nd place with back-to-back rounds of 86 (172). Senior Ali Restaino, the fifth member of Butler's scoring team, did not post a score in the first round, but shot an 81 in the final round.
The Bulldogs grabbed a four-stroke lead with a team score of 316 in the opening round and then stretched that margin to seven strokes over runner-up Towson with a 313 in the final round. Wagner came in third in the seven-team tournament, followed by Fairleigh Dickinson, Delaware State, St. Francis (N.Y.) and host Navy.
Butler will take a week off before hosting the Butler Fall Invitational on Oct. 7-8.
