The Butler women's soccer team will open its 22nd season of play when it hosts Louisville Friday, Aug. 17 at the Butler Bowl at 7 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to pick up a Butler rally towel.

Louisville went 14-7-3 and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship last season. The Cardinals are led by junior forward Christine Exeter, who scored 14 goals and was third team NSCAA All-America last season.

The Dawgs and Cardinals will be meeting for the 11th time, with Louisville leading the series 6-3-1. Butler's last win vs. U of L came in 2000. In last year's meeting, Louisville's Chloe Kiefer scored in the 101st minute to edge BU 1-0. Most of the game's statistics were even.

Butler was successful in its lone exhibition contest, a 3-1 win over IUPUI. Senior Rachael Melendez had a goal and an assist in the win. Junior Olivia Colosimo and sophomore Elise Kotsakis also scored in the first half, as BU jumped out to a 3-0 lead. IUPUI countered with a quick goal before halftime, and the two teams were scoreless in the second period.

The contest against Louisville is the first of two home matches this weekend for Butler. IPFW comes to the Butler Bowl Sunday, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.
