The Butler women’s soccer team will look to continue its six-match unbeaten streak this weekend when it makes its first A-10 road trip. The Bulldogs will travel to Richmond, Va. to take on Richmond Friday and VCU Sunday, their first ever meeting with either team.

The Bulldogs (8-3-2, 2-0-1) are coming off an impressive weekend in which they knocked off league-leading Dayton (Oct. 5) and Xavier (Oct. 7), both in overtime.

Sophomore defender Kelly Mahoney scored a goal in each game, including the game-winner against Xavier, while freshman midfielder Sophia Maccagnone had a goal and an assist in the win over Dayton.

For their efforts, Mahoney and Maccagnone were named Atlantic 10 Conference Women’s Soccer Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively.

It was Mahoney’s first such honor on the year. Maccagnone, who leads the Bulldogs in shots (61), points (17) and goals (8), has been named Rookie of the Week three times this season. Maccagnone ranks third in the A-10 in goals.

Friday’s match up will pit the red-hot Bulldogs against the Richmond Spiders (6-7-0, 2-2-0).

Richmond is led by junior forward Becca Wann, who rejoined the Spiders Sept. 14 after winning a gold medal with the 2012 U-20 Women’s Soccer Team.

Since her return, Wann has scored a team-best five goals and helped Richmond to a 4-2 record.

Sunday, the Bulldogs will stay in Richmond, Va. to take on VCU.

The Rams are led on the field by junior forward Courtney Conrad and senior defender Wendy Acosta. Conrad has scored a team-leading seven goals, while Acosta has added six goals.

VCU recently had its 11-match home unbeaten streak snapped with a 2-1 loss to La Salle on Sunday, Oct. 7.
