Butler Recruit Captures Top Softball Awards

Butler recruit Jenny Esparza has added to an already impressive resume with a pair of prestigious honors, including Indiana’s top softball award.  The incoming freshman capped off a brilliant senior season at Avon High School by being named the Indianapolis Star Super Team Player of the Year and by being selected as the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association 2009 Miss Softball.

Esparza dominated with her arm and with her bat in 2009.  On the mound, she had a 24-3 record with 413 strikeouts and a 0.15 earned run average.  She also posted a .452 batting average with four home runs and 23 runs batted in.

In her last three seasons at Avon, Esparza posted a 72-12 pitching record with more than 1,200 strikeouts!  She recorded a 0.35 earned run average as a sophomore and a 0.08 ERA as a junior, allowing just two earned runs in 183 innings!
