Butler Adds Softball Recruit
Butler softball coach Scott Hall added to his 2012 recruiting class with the mid-summer signing of Riley Carter, a talented catcher/shortstop from Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada. Carter joins five incoming freshmen previously signed by Hall.

Space is still available for Butler's softball camps being held June 26-28. The Bulldog coaches will be working with pitchers Tuesday, June 26, infielders the next day and will finish with an outfield camp June 28.

McNulty, Sullivan Named All-Tournament
Senior Lauren McNulty and junior Meaghan Sullivan were named to the All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the 2012 Horizon League Softball Championship on Saturday, May 12. The two Bulldogs helped Butler to a third place team finish in the league championship.

Bulldogs Bid Ends At Valparaiso
Butler’s bid to capture the 2012 Horizon League Softball Championship came to an end on Friday, May 11, at the VU Softball Field. The fifth-seeded Bulldogs, who began the tournament with a pair of upsets, were eliminated with losses to No. 2 seed Loyola, 9-1, and to top-seeded Valparaiso, 3-2, in eight innings.

Bulldogs Drop Top-Seeded Valparaiso
Senior Breanna Fisher continued Butler’s superb pitching, and the Bulldogs pounded out nine hits to upset #1 seed Valparaiso, 6-1, in the second round of the 2012 Horizon League Softball Championship on Thursday, May 10. The victory sends Butler into a “winners’ bracket” game against #2 Loyola on Friday, May 11.

Butler Blanks Youngstown State At League Tournament
Sophomore Leah Bry tossed a three-hit shutout lead #5 Butler to a 3-0 victory over #4 Youngstown State in the opening game of the 2012 Horizon League Women’s Softball Championship at Valparaiso on Wednesday, May 9. The win lifts the Bulldogs to a second round match against top-seeded Valparaiso on Thursday, May 10.

McNulty, Sullivan Named First Team All-League
Senior Lauren McNulty and junior Meaghan Sullivan sparked Butler’s offensive attack this season and both were named to the first team on the 2012 Horizon League Softball All-League Team, released by the league office on Tuesday, May 8. A third Butler player, freshman Kristen Boros, was chosen to the league’s All-Newcomer Team.

Bulldogs Sweep Final Doubleheader
Butler unleashed 23 hits and 15 runs and wound up sweeping its final doubleheader of the 2012 season at Viking Field in Cleveland, Ohio, on Sunday, April 29. The Bulldogs defeated host Cleveland State, 7-5, in the opening game and then captured the nightcap, 8-1.

Bulldogs Fall At Cleveland State
Rain captured one game and Cleveland State held off a late Butler rally to take the second contest, 7-5, in a scheduled Horizon League doubleheader at Viking Field in Cleveland, Ohio, on Saturday, April 28. The same two teams will wrap up the regular season with a doubleheader on Sunday, April 29.

Bulldogs Beat League-Leading Valparaiso
Senior Alyssa Coleman drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and relief pitcher Leah Bry finished with four shutout innings to help lift Butler to a 5-4 victory over league-leading Valparaiso in the final game of a three-game Horizon League series at the VU Softball Field on Thursday, April 26. It was just the third league setback for the Crusaders this season.

League-leading Valparaiso used two solid pitching performances and some timely hitting to sweep a doubleheader from Butler at the Valparaiso Softball Field on Wednesday, April 25. The host Crusaders won the opening game, 9-1, in five innings and then captured the nightcap, 5-1.

Leah Bry Named Horizon League Pitcher of the Week
Sophomore Leah Bry, who pitched in six games in six days and led Butler to four victories, has been named Horizon League Softball Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 16-22. She’s the third Butler pitcher to be honored this spring.

Visiting Wright State scored two unearned runs in the top of the sixth inning and then held off Butler to post a 5-3 victory in the final game of a three-game Horizon League series at the Butler Softball Field on Wednesday, April 18. The win gave the Raiders the series, 2-1.

Host Green Bay unloaded 13 hits and 11 runs in four innings and rolled past Butler, 11-3, in a run-shortened game at Ben Garot Field on Sunday, April 15. The win in the final game of a three-game Horizon League series gave the Phoenix the series edge, 2-1.

Bulldogs Salvage Twinbill Split
Butler unleashed a seven-run rally in the final inning of the second game to grab a come-from-behind victory and earn a split in a non-league doubleheader at Morehead State on Tuesday, April 10. Host Morehead State captured the opening game, 1-0, before the Bulldogs stormed back with an 11-5 decision in the nightcap.

Freshman Kristen Boros, who helped Butler to four wins in five outings, has been named Horizon League Player of the Week for the week of April 2-8. She’s the third Butler player to be honored this spring and the first non-pitcher.

Softball This Weekend
There is a lot going on at Butler's home softball games when the Bulldogs host UIC this weekend. Friday, April 6 is Butler Faculty/Staff Day and National Student-Athlete Day. Saturday, April 7 is the team's breast cancer awareness game.

Butler turned a strong pitching performance and a timely rally into a pair of non-league victories over Indiana State at Price Field in Terre Haute on Wednesday, April 4. The Bulldogs captured the opener, 6-0, and then pulled out an 8-4 decision in eight innings in the nightcap.

An RBI double by junior Kayla Gray and a two-run double by senior Jessica Huey lifted the Butler softball team to a 4-0 win over Loyola on Sunday. The win allowed Butler to take two of three against the Ramblers.

The Butler softball team was one inning away from sweeping a home doubleheader against Loyola on Saturday. Junior Jenny Esparza threw a shutout in a 2-0 game one victory, but Loyola made a big comeback in the second game to win 5-4.

Junior Jenny Esparza pitched four strong innings and helped lead visiting Butler to an 8-1 victory over Michigan State at Secchia Stadium in East Lansing, Mich., on Thursday, March 29. It was the second straight road win for the Bulldogs, who will begin a three-game Horizon League series on Saturday (March 31).

Amanda Geile hit a two-out, two-run double in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift host Arkansas to a come-from-behind, 6-5, victory over Butler in the championship game of the Woo Pig Classic on Sunday, March 4. The finish left the Bulldogs with the runner-up trophy in the four-team meet.

Butler came up with two strong pitching performances, but managed just one win on the final day of the Evansville Tournament at the at James and Dorothy Cooper Stadium. Butler, boasting a strong returning cast from last year’s 32-24 squad which finished runner-up in the Horizon League Tournament, has been picked second in the annual Horizon League preseason softball poll. The Bulldogs received two first place votes and 55 total points in the poll of league softball coaches.

Winter Softball Clinics Set For Jan. 15
It may be chilly outside, but softball action will be heating up inside the Butler Hitting Facility and the Butler Tennis Bubble at a pair of winter clinics. Butler will host a hitting clinic and a pitching clinic for 9th through 12th grade student-athletes on Sunday, Jan. 15.

Butler Lands Five Softball Recruits
Butler head coach Scott Hall was checking the recruiting trail for pitching, hitting and defense, and that’s what he found in his 2012-13 recruiting class. The second-year Butler coach signed four Indiana high school players and one prep player from Colorado during the November recruiting period, and the five boast talent and success.

Butler Softball Earns NFCA Academic Recognition
Six Butler softball players have been honored for academic achievement by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The six were named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes, and Butler was further honored as a 2010-11 All-Academic Team.
