Young Bulldogs Thriving In Fall Exhibitions

A young Butler softball team featuring 10 freshmen is 4-1-1 this fall.

In their opening weekend, the Dawgs defeated Marian University, St. Joseph's College and Lake Land College, while dropping their contest with Ball State.

Hall has been very pleased with how his team performed. "It was nice to finally seem them on the field as a group," the third-year coach said. "We saw some good things and we observed many areas that we will continue to work on in practice."

On Saturday, Sept. 22, Butler went 1-0-1 against IUPUI on a beautiful and windy afternoon. Butler squeaked out the win in the first game and the two teams called it a tie after each team remained tied after the 8th inning. Coach Hall saw several things that caught his eye.  Junior Callie Dennison and freshman Audrey East each hit their first collegiate home run and senior Jenny Esparza returned to the mound for the first time since early last May.

" I was really pleased with our pitching staff against IUPUI," Hall said. "I thought they all showed improvement in the circle compared to last weekend. Our defense was tight all day. We need to continue to work on our swings, but that will come in time."

Butler continues their fall season traveling to Purdue for a doubleheader Sunday, Oct 7.
