Riley Carter Selected To Canada National Team Pool

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- Butler shortstop Riley Carter was one of 41 athletes selected by Softball Canada to the 2013-14 Women's National Team Athlete Pool.  Athletes named to the Women's National Team Pool are eligible to be invited to the Women's National Team training camps and selection camps.

"We are very pleased to announce our Athlete Pool for 2013-14," stated Women's National Team Head Coach Mark Smith, in a release from Softball Canada.  "Our coaching staff, as well as our network of coaching colleagues from across the country, have provided great feedback on strong team and individual performances in 2013.  We are excited about getting to know and work with these athletes in the coming months."

The Canadian Women's National Team will compete at the Canadian Open Fastpitch International Championship in Surrey, BC (dates to be determined) and the ISF Women's World Championship, which will take place August 15-24, 2014, in Haarlem, Netherlands.

"As we prepare for 2014 and the ISF Women's World Championship, as well as the 2015 Junior Women's World Championship and Pan American Games, we anticipate that many of the athletes named in this pool will be wearing the Maple Leaf and representing our country in international competition," added Smith.

Carter, heading into her second season at Butler, was a member of the Canadian Junior National Team that competed at the 2013 International Softball Federation Junior World Championships last summer.  She helped Canada to a 6-3 record and a fifth place finish at the 15-nation tournament.
