Butler Wins Final Game At Frost Classic
CHATTANOOGA, TENN. -- Senior Leah Bry pitched her second straight complete game and helped lead Butler to a 2-1 victory over Austin Peay at the Frost Classic on Sunday, Feb. 23. The Bulldogs finished the tournament in Tennessee with a 2-3 record.
Bry, who tossed her first complete game shutout of the seaons just 24 hours earlier, limited Austin Peay to a single run on six hits over seven innings. She struck out nine, while walking two. Bry posted a 2-1 record with a 0.90 earned run average in the three-day tournament.
Austin Peay (4-11) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the third inning on a two-out single by Lauren de Castro.
But the Bulldogs (4-9) quickly tied the game in the top of the fourth inning when Sarah Gronowski stole third and scored on a throwing error. Butler scored the game-winner one inning later when Kristen Boros reached on an error, advanced to second on a sacrifice by Riley Carter and scored on a single by Brandyce Sallee.
Bry blanked Austin Peay on just three hits over the final four innings.
Sallee wound up pacing Butler's offense at the Frost Classic with five hits, including one double, three runs batted in and a .333 batting average for the five games. She had a .400 slugging percentage and a .421 on-base percentage.
Butler will continue its early season tournament schedule with a trip to the University of Kentucky Invitational, Feb. 28-March 2.
