Leah Bry Earns BIG EAST Honor
INDIANAPOLIS—Butler senior Leah Bry, who turned in three strong pitching performances for the Bulldogs at the Frost Classic in Chattanooga, Tenn., has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week. She's the first Butler softball player to be honored by the conference.
Bry posted a 2-1 record with a 0.90 earned run average in 20 innings of work at the Frost Classic. She allowed just two earned runs on the weekend and chalked up 23 strikeouts, while walking just five. The Butler right-hander went the distance in all three of her appearances.
The Oak Park, Ill., native tossed her first complete-game shutout of the season to lead Butler past Radford, 2-0. She had 10 strikeouts in the game and allowed only three hits. Twenty-four hours later, she threw another complete game to lift Butler past Austin Peay, 2-1. Bry recorded nine strikeouts in that win.
Her lone setback in the tournament came at the hands of Northwestern State, 5-1. She pitched six innings in that game and gave up just one earned run.
Butler will continue its early season tournament schedule when it travels to Lexington, Kentucky to participate in the Kentucky Invitational. The Bulldogs will meet Pittsburgh at 1 p.m. (ET) on Friday, Feb. 28, in the first game of the tournament.
