INDIANAPOLIS - The Butler women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 5-2 win over Atlantic 10 rival Dayton on Friday, Jan. 18.

The Bulldogs opened the day by winning two out of three matches in doubles play. The pairing of junior Stephanie McLoughlin and senior Brittany Farmer were victorious by a score of 8-4 at No. 1 doubles, while junior Laura Shull and freshman Sienna Reuter won 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.

McLoughlin led the Bulldogs with a win in No. 1 singles. She defeated Dayton's Sammi Hornbarger 6-3, 6-4.

Junior Caroline Hedrick, playing No. 2 singles for the Bulldogs, also scored a victory by a count of 6-4, 6-4.

Dayton secured wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles. Maureen Stevens and Victoria Marchant each were victorious 6-3, 6-2 and 6-4, 7-6 and 10-3, respectively.

The Bulldogs (1-0) next will host Western Michigan at 10 a.m. on Jan. 26.
