CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Butler women's tennis season ended on Thursday, as No. 4 seed Richmond held off No. 13 Butler 4-0 at the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship.
The Bulldogs (4-17), competing in the A-10 event for the first and last time before moving on to the Big East, nearly claimed an early lead with the doubles point. No. 1 doubles duo Caroline Hedrick and Brittany Farmer won 8-6 over Richmond's Melissa Kandinata and Katya Salas. BU took UR into a tie-breaker at No. 2 doubles before losing 9-8 (1).
Richmond cruised at the bottom of the lineup for the three necessary points to win. Stephanie McLoughlin, playing No. 2 singles, was winning before her match was unfinished. Farmer was also tied 4-4 in the second set at No. 3 singles.
The match was the last in the career of Farmer, a senior from Terre Haute, Ind. She concluded her Butler career with identical 56-45 records in both singles and doubles play.
