NORMAL, Ill. - Juniors Caroline Hedrick and Stephanie McLoughlin each advanced to the semifinals in the No. 1 singles flight to lead the Butler women's tennis team at Illinois State.
Junior Laura Shull also won twice before falling in the No. 3 Flight semi.
Hedrick edged Phyllis Tigges of the host Redbirds 7-5, 7-5 then crushed Klavdija Rebol from Drake before falling in three sets in the semifinal. On the other side of the bracket, McLoughlin beat A-10 opponents from Dayton and Saint Louis before losing 6-2, 6-2 to Emmie Marx of Illinois State.
Shull defeated Bradley's Monique Graf 6-3, 6-2 and then edged Erin Filbrandt to advanced to the semifinal. Her run would eventually end at the hands of Saint Louis' Madeline Jolly 6-2, 7-5.
Butler's best effort in doubles play came from Stephanie McLoughlin and Brittany Farmer. The duo fell in the first round but won twice after that to advance to the consolation final. Adele Henke and Sarah Rodefeld ended their run in a tie-breaker 9-8 (7-5).
Butler's next fall event is the ITA Regional at Purdue beginning Thursday, Oct. 18.
